Sarah Shaffi is a journalist, author, editor and interviewer, with more than a decade of experience working at newspapers, magazines and websites. She is also the author of the children’s books All About Eid, illustrated by Aaliya Jaleel, and South Asian Folktales, Myths & Legends.
As a freelance writer, Sarah has bylines at Condé Nast Traveler, The A. V. Club, the Guardian, Stylist, Penguin.co.uk, The New Arab and more. She specialises in books, but also writes about politics, race, travel and pop culture (and the intersection of them all).
Sarah is forthcoming titles editor at The Review, a publication from the Jhalak Foundation and WritersMosaic, which is produced by and features writers of the global majority, both in and outside the UK.
She regularly chairs events with authors, and has interviewed Booker Prize-winner Bernardine Evaristo, poet Nikita Gill, and authors Malorie Blackman, Candice Carty-Williams and Liane Moriarty, among others, in front of live, in-person audiences. She has led Instagram Lives and worked for clients including the Kindle Storyteller Award and The Booker Prize. Other clients for live events include Fane, Cheltenham Literary Festival, Waterstones and more.
In 2023, Sarah programmed for the fiction strand at Bath Literature Festival, pairing authors for a series of successful events.
Sarah has been a judge for a number of literary prizes, including the Jhalak Prize for Best Book by a Writer of Colour and the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.
In publishing, Sarah does copy editing, structural editing and authenticity reads, and has worked on a number of fiction and non-fiction titles in adult’s and children’s publishing. She has worked on copywriting projects for the Hay Festival and Penguin Random House.
Sarah also has experience with project managing websites. She worked on commissioning and writing content and building Penguin Random House’s How to Get Published website, project managed the redesign of The Bookseller’s website, and worked as part of the team relaunching the website of The Booker Foundation.
